Congrats To Our March Adoptees!

Congrats to all the dogs and cats that connected with their forever families in March! We said goodbye to the rest of Huss’ puppies:  Bouncer, Gateau, Lulu and Tobey.  Our big oaf Gypsey finally found her family after living in rescue since November. Sully’s foster mom decided she couldn’t live without his sweet face and foster failed.  We also said goodbye to three of Francis puppies, Cadence, Ebony and Tasha (who flew all the way to BC to be with her new mom!)

Patti and her puppies Midnight and Eve found their furrever families.  As well as Beauty, the 7 month old puppy we had been rehabilitating after she had been struck by a car in January. Peaches (who came back after a failed adoption trial) found her forever home with her very own foster family and Bella our long term foster finally found her forever home too! Lucy, the single breed mastiff that was found wandering outside of the city found a nice warm home and a family to love her. And last but not least, Zee Zee the Pomeranian and Pepper the black kitten found their forever families this month as well!

Good luck and thank you to all the families that made the decision to adopt a rescue pet this month!

Pet Of The Week: Isabella

This week’s pet of the week is only six and a half months old and has already overcome many obstacles in such a short amount of time. From being born into the life as a stray, to overcoming Feline Leukemia Virus, here’s Isabella’s story.

potwissy2As you can see, Isabella has always been small for her age but anyone who’s met her will tell you that she sure makes up for it in personality! In October, an animal lover found an orphaned litter of kittens and was kind enough to bring the litter to McPhillips Animal Hospital. Upon examination, it was discovered that one of the kittens (our Isabella) tested positive for feline leukemia virus (feLV).

Approximately eighty percent of cats that are permanently infected with Feline Leukemia Virus die within three years of coming into contact with the virus due to secondary infections and illness. The veterinarians knew that Isabella would need a very special home while waiting for a secondary test to confirm the diagnosis.

That very special home was with our own co-founder/co-director, Amanda. What makes Amanda so special? A few things, but mostly because Amanda’s cat is also living with feLV, so there would be no risk of infecting another cat while Isabella waited to be tested again. We hoped for the best but knew that if the second test was positive, Isabella could at least live out the rest of her life with Amanda.

After two months of living in foster care, Isabella retested for feLV and came back negative! In 70% of cases, kittens that test positive for feLV will fight off the virus and live long and healthy lives, we are so thankful that Isabella has joined the ranks of happy, healthy and feLV free kittens!

As our Pet Of The Week, Isabella will go to her furrever family with a care package full of treats and goodies. If you think you have room in your heart for Isabella, please head over to our Adopt page and get started on an application!

Adoption Fair – This Saturday, March 16th 2013.

Pet Of The Week: Sabreena

This week’s pet is Sabreena, a six month old Lab/Husky blend who’s been in rescue since she was about 3 -4 weeks old.  Sabreena is a wonderful dog who deserves so much more than growing up in rescue, she needs her FURRever family to step forward. Please read her story and share it with your friends.

In November of 2012, a SSNIP volunteer on the Sagkeeng First Nations Reserve found a tiny three week old pup sitting next to a burned down house. She was skinny and crying and unfortunately all alone. Puppies that young aren’t typically too far from their mom. The volunteer searched and searched for a mom or other puppies, but sadly found nothing.

The small pup was transported into Winnipeg by SSNIP and brought to Jenn’s Furry Friends Rescue. She was so tiny, we weren’t even sure what breed she was, but the pup was set up with one of our volunteer foster homes and named Sabreena.

Sabreena is now six months old and thriving in her foster mom’s care. She he has two other dogs and a few cats to play with, and they all get along great! She loves meeting new people and playing in the snow. Sabreena is crate trained, house broken and working on all sorts of basic obedience training. We think Sabreena would do best in an active home as she is an active girl who loves to play and run.

As our pet of the week, Sabreena will join her forever family with a care package full of treats! Additionally, her adoption fee has been reduced to $175 for this week only. To set up a meet and greet with Sabreena, please email us your completed adoption form and we will contact you as soon as possible.
