Photography!

We just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to two amazing photographers that have taken some stunningly beautiful shots for us recently!

Here are a few pictures that pet photographer Abbeygail Elaine took of Huss’ pups Tobey and Lulu. Not only is she a wonderful foster mom, but she’s also an extremely talented photographer.

Also, our friends at KEEPhoto took on the arduous task for photographing Patti’s litter of 10 and we think they did a wonderful job! KEEPhoto is also doing a spring photo session at Pawsh Dog next weekend, check out their Facebook page for more information.

If you’re a photographer who would like to lend a hand at any of our events or just help us get some animals adopted by using your skills, please drop us a line. We would love to hear from you!

The Boys From Sioux Valley

This week, our pet of the week is actually two pets. Toni and Lazer.  These wonderful boys were rescued just in the nick of time by some very dedicated dog lovers who decided to help save as may dogs as they could, before a scheduled “Shoot Day”. This is a sad reality in many communities that find themselves overwhelmed by a homeless dog population.

This is Toni, a 7 month old lab X who is quite the gentleman! He will shake your hand before he eats his dinner and is learning how to ring a bell by the door when he needs to go outside to do his business! Toni is quickly learning obedience from his foster mom and knows to only chew on his own toys.

And last but not least, Lazer! He’s a very unique looking husky/shepherd cross and is about 7 months old. Lazer is crate trained and will go straight to his kennel when you tell him to (and offer him a tasty treat). He is a very active boy that loves to play but will always take a moment to cuddle up with you before getting back to business!  Lazer also really loves belly rubs.

If you are interested in these two Pets of the week, please fill out an adoption form, available here and send us an email! Our featured dogs this week will go home with everything normally included, as well as a puppy care package full of treats! Additionally, their adoption fees have been reduced for this week only

February Adoptions

For a short month, our February sure was busy! Eight dogs (Bree, Daisy, Bluebell, Chloe, Cruiser, Huss, Peaches and Tequila), 2 cats (PanPan and Smudge) and a bearded dragon (Dextera) all found their forever homes. Congrats to all our adoptive families and adoptables!

The Sad Side Of Heartworm Treatment And The True Cost Of Those Little Pills

heartworm_large_winterEvery spring, vets everywhere send out notices to their canine clients with regards to heartworm pills and check ups. And Without fail,  every year the debate seems to come up again and again. Is heartworm prevention necessary? Will my dog even come in contact with this?  We aren’t here to fuel the debate, however as a rescue and people who have seen the worst case senario, we feel that heart worm pills and regular tests are very important.

Jenn’s Furry Friends Rescue recently took in a heart worm positive dog,  Francis who we are trying to raise funds for.  She has a long and difficult road ahead of her now that her puppies are weaned.  She is also looking for a nice and quiet foster home if anyone is wanting to foster this wonderful dog!

The following is an estimate from our vet’s office, provided in February of 2013. This is what is medically necessary to get her back to being happy, healthy and heartworm free.

March 27th 2013: A Very Furry Fundraiser!

Rescues rely exclusively on donations and volunteer work, and  Jenn’s Furry Friends Rescue has the best volunteers a rescue could ask for!  As many of you may have noticed, we’ve taken in quite a few dogs that have needed special medical treatment over the past few months, and our volunteers decided to do something about it!

In order to offset the rising vet bills, they have worked tirelessly to organize a Rumors Comedy Club fundraiser!  The evening will feature comedian Kelly Taylor, runner up in Just For Laughs Homegrown 2012 Comedy Competition as well as a 50/50 and a silent auction! Its going to be a great night, so come on by, meet your fellow foster parents, volunteers and of course – support a great cause!

Here’s a little snippet of Kelly at work  (mild language warning!):

For more information on this event, please check this page often or  like us on Facebook!

Happy Valentines Day From Sissy!

And remember guys! As much as your furry friend will try to tell you otherwise, chocolate is extremely toxic to dogs and cats! If you would like to surprise them with a special treat, many pet stores have “chocolate” alternatives made with carob!

Best Friends Animal Hospital’s Super Star of the Month!

Our vet’s office chose rescue alumni Leif as their super star of the month! Check out their post here!

Beep beep! Here comes Sully, riding into rescue!

Sully is the newest member of our rescue, he is a 3 month old YorkiePoo that will be up for adoption soon!

Pet of the week #2

This week, our pet of the week is Molly! She is a beautiful four to five year old calico cat that has been in foster for a few months now.  Molly is a very affectionate girl who loves being pet and will ask you for attention by putting a paw on top of your hand. Molly’s favorite spots at her foster home are either on her foster mom’s bed or tucked away on a chair somewhere in the house. Molly would prefer a quieter environment to call home.  If you think you’ve got the PURRfect pad for her, please drop us a line!

Rescue Update

Hi everyone! Here’s a little update on some of our current rescues.

First, lets start off by congratulating both Bree and Peaches on finding their FURRever families! Bree will be staying right where she is, as her foster family decided that they couldn’t live without her!  We also wanted to welcome Toby, Toni and Lazer into rescue – we will share their stories and put up their adoption notices very soon. Stay tuned!

A few days ago, we told you about Fiona, the dog with severe mange from Norway House.  As you can see in the picture below, her skin is finally starting to heal! She is no longer raw and infected.
