Chloe’s Story

Chloe is a brave little girl who was rushed in from a remote northern community after being run over by a vehicle. She has amazed us all, and has been brave while persevering through recovery. When she came in, it was determined that she had a shattered pelvis and nerve damage down her leg. A date was set to amputate her leg but on the day of her surgery, the vet found that she had regained feeling already. It was decided to give her more time to heal.

As time went on, Chloe gained more and more use of and feeling in her leg. After two months, her foster family noticed she was starting to put weight on her injured leg. Her prognosis was very hopeful. Despite her injury, Chloe has always been a spunky girl. She enjoyed “getting frisky” and playing with her foster siblings. She bonded with another dog Leif who came from the same hometown as her, and was in recovering mode as well. Chloe has touched the hearts of everyone she has met. Her foster mom became very attached to her. Her innocence, and vulnerability when they first met, melted her heart.

The time came when Chloe was well enough to be adopted. There are not enough words to describe how amazing Chloe’s new mom is. She has a heart of gold. We thought Chloe would finish regaining use and feeling in her leg, and this would be her “happily ever after”. Unfortunately, soon after she went to her new home Chloe began chewing at her foot. It was determined that the feeling was finally returning to her foot but it was painful because of the nerve damage. She once chewed her own foot so bad that her toe and pad had to be amputated because bone was exposed. Chloe’s mom has been cleaning and bandaging her foot 4 times a day, everyday for several months. This is to keep the area clean, and to protect her foot from being chewed on again. It is a 30 minute ordeal each time because Chloe’s foot must be air dried to prevent bacteria from developing. Chloe’s mom spends up to 4 hours a day tending to Chloe’s foot. She also can not be left alone because she will re-chew her foot until it bleeds. Chloe must have a babysitter.

After being on antibiotics and nerve pain medication for months, it has sadly been determined that it is best for Chloe to have her leg amputated. This is the only way she can live pain free. After the months of perseverance Chloe and her mom have put in, they deserve to be able to live out their happily ever after. Chloe and her mom are amazing. This will be a $1500 surgery.

UPDATE: Chloe had her surgery performed on June 6th 2013 and is currently recuperating. We are still very much in need of donations to cover this surgery! If you would like to help Chloe and her mom move on to the next chapter of their lives together,  please make a donation by calling in to Best Friends Animal Hospital at 204-269-4451, they will take credit card information right over the phone, just tell them it’s for Chloe.

May’s Adoptees!

Lots of adoptions this month! Congrats to the following dogs, cats and critters for finding their fur-ever homes this month!

Julia Rabberts & Friend

Aaylee the cat and her two kittens Dublin and Lymric (who turned 8 weeks old in May) found new homes, so did Freya who’s foster family decided they just couldn’t bare to part with her sweet face! We also said goodbye to Pixie the Great Dane/Bulldog who’s found a happy home with animals her own size (okay, she’s not as big as the horses but its close enough!). Newman, one of the New Years puppies also found his furever home as did his beautiful sister Sparkle. Party Pippin and Mabel found love at the Niverville Dog Adoption Fair and couldn’t be happier!

Macy looks pretty happy in her new home!

We said a bittersweet goodbye to two of our longer-term foster dogs: Sabreena who had been in foster care since she had been found as a three week old puppy in November and Fiona who had come in with a horrible case of mange, back in December.  Mushu the adorable Peke mix, Zoe the St. Bernard, Macy and Sofie found love in May as well.  And last but certainly not the least, Julia Rabberts (pictured above) found friendship with a little wiener dog!

Thank you for choosing to adopt a rescue dog, cat or critter and a big thank you to our amazing fosters. We truly cannot thank you enough for all the time and love you give to these animals. And yes, for those of you keeping count.. that’s 16!

Niverville Dog Adoption Fair – May 11th 2013

We are extremely happy to be attending the second annual Niverville Dog Adoption fair this weekend. The dog adoption fair is a huge event and allows many rescues to showcase their dogs.. and more importantly, for every day people to proudly call themselves a doggy hero by adopting instead of purchasing from backyard breeders.

April Adoptions

What a great month for adoptions! Thirteen Furry Friends met their furrever families!

Clark and Nova (two of Patti’s puppies) and both Sheeba and Sasha from Francis’ litter connected with their furrever families.  Also adopted this month were Zach, Remington, Bella(Josie) and Toby The Bathroom Cat (Formerly Toby The Bookstore Cat).

Congrats to our long-term fosters Sissy, Molly, Toni and Trinket who’s patience finally paid off!  And last but not least,  the blue eyed kitten who’s family foster failed so fast we didn’t even have time to name him!

Good luck and thank you to everyone who adopted this month!

Queenie Needs A Foster Home, Right Meow!

We are looking for a foster home for Queenie!  She’s a one year old (approx), long hair tortie that showed up on a woman’s farm a few weeks ago. All attempts have been made to locate her owner but to no avail. She is now coming into rescue but needs a foster home. She is very sweet, good with kids and fine with cats and dogs.

Are you interested in fostering? We supply toys, bedding, food, litter box and anything else you may need. You supply the love.
