Jenn's Furry Friends Rescue

Chloe’s Story

Chloe is a brave little girl who was rushed in from a remote northern community after being run over by a vehicle. She has amazed us all, and has been brave while persevering through recovery. When she came in, it was determined that she had a shattered pelvis and nerve damage down her leg. A date was set to amputate her leg but on the day of her surgery, the vet found that she had regained feeling already. It was decided to give her more time to heal.

As time went on, Chloe gained more and more use of and feeling in her leg. After two months, her foster family noticed she was starting to put weight on her injured leg. Her prognosis was very hopeful. Despite her injury, Chloe has always been a spunky girl. She enjoyed “getting frisky” and playing with her foster siblings. She bonded with another dog Leif who came from the same hometown as her, and was in recovering mode as well. Chloe has touched the hearts of everyone she has met. Her foster mom became very attached to her. Her innocence, and vulnerability when they first met, melted her heart.

The time came when Chloe was well enough to be adopted. There are not enough words to describe how amazing Chloe’s new mom is. She has a heart of gold. We thought Chloe would finish regaining use and feeling in her leg, and this would be her “happily ever after”. Unfortunately, soon after she went to her new home Chloe began chewing at her foot. It was determined that the feeling was finally returning to her foot but it was painful because of the nerve damage. She once chewed her own foot so bad that her toe and pad had to be amputated because bone was exposed. Chloe’s mom has been cleaning and bandaging her foot 4 times a day, everyday for several months. This is to keep the area clean, and to protect her foot from being chewed on again. It is a 30 minute ordeal each time because Chloe’s foot must be air dried to prevent bacteria from developing. Chloe’s mom spends up to 4 hours a day tending to Chloe’s foot. She also can not be left alone because she will re-chew her foot until it bleeds. Chloe must have a babysitter.

After being on antibiotics and nerve pain medication for months, it has sadly been determined that it is best for Chloe to have her leg amputated. This is the only way she can live pain free. After the months of perseverance Chloe and her mom have put in, they deserve to be able to live out their happily ever after. Chloe and her mom are amazing. This will be a $1500 surgery.

UPDATE: Chloe had her surgery performed on June 6th 2013 and is currently recuperating.
